Background: Computed tomography (CT) is a core diagnostic imaging modality supporting modern health systems. In Vietnam, rapid expansion of healthcare infrastructure has driven increasing investment in CT scanners, yet comprehensive multi-year market analyses remain limited.
Objective: To analyze CT scanner, import trends in Vietnam from 2023 to 2025, focusing on growth patterns, technology segmentation by slice category, and manufacturer market structure within an ASEAN health systems context.
Materials and Methods: This study utilized official national import statistics obtained from the Vietnam General Department of Customs (publicly available import declaration database) covering the period from January 2023 to December 2025. The dataset included manufacturer name, slice category, year of import, and quantity of CT systems. All data were extracted from officially declared medical device import records and cross-checked to avoid duplication. CT systems were grouped into four technology categories: low-end slice CT (≤64 slices), mid-end slice CT (128–160 slices), high-end slice CT (256–640 slices), and specialized CT systems (including photon-counting CT and simulation CT). Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses were performed using R software (version 4.3.2; R Foundation for Statistical Computing, Vienna, Austria).
Results: A total of 438 CT systems were imported during the three-year period. Annual imports increased from 115 systems in 2023 to 188 systems in 2024 and 171 systems in 2025. While ≤64-slice CT scanners dominated early expansion, higher-slice and specialized CT systems accounted for an increasing proportion of total imports in 2025. GE and Siemens together represented more than two-thirds of the market in 2025.
Conclusion: Vietnam’s CT scanner market demonstrates a transition from rapid capacity expansion toward technological upgrading, with important implications for imaging investment and health system planning across ASEAN countries.
